Learning to Lead with Purpose
On 4 October, President Rajani, Past President Shanthy, ISO Jayanthi, and Club Correspondent Rema were invited by the Project Management Institute Malaysia Chapter (PMIMY) to represent the Inner Wheel Club of Subang Selangor at the Project Management Day of Service (PMDoS) held at the University of Nottingham Malaysia.
PMIMY is a nonprofit professional association dedicated to advancing the practice and profession of project management in Malaysia. Through the PMDoS initiative, it provides pro bono project management consultancy to nonprofit organisations, equipping them with tools and strategies to manage their projects more effectively and achieve greater community impact.
Our club was privileged to be guided by four experienced consultants—Nara, Punitha, Sarita, and Talaat—who shared valuable insights on effective project planning and execution. The session also introduced the SMART framework, ensuring our goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. During the session, we worked hands-on on managing a project, with the consultants walking us step by step through the process from planning to completion. The consultants offered practical guidance on defining, scoping, and structuring projects for optimal outcomes.
We were further inspired by two student volunteers from the University of Nottingham, Jevita and Yu Hong, whose fresh perspectives added depth and creativity to the session.
This collaboration was both enlightening and inspiring. It enhanced our members’ skills while supporting one of Inner Wheel’s key focus areas, Empowerment. The knowledge gained will enable us to plan and implement structured, efficient, and sustainable service initiatives, in line with this year’s theme: “To Step Up and Lead by Example.”
