Deepavali “Sprinkle of Love” Project
Objective:
To share the festive spirit of Deepavali with a special family — four children who tragically lost both parents and are now lovingly cared for by their grandmother and bedridden grandfather. This initiative sought to bring happiness, dignity, and inclusion by treating them to a memorable Deepavali shopping experience.
A Heart-Warming Evening of Festive Cheer
On a cheerful evening around 7.00 PM, members of our club fetched the four children, their cousin, and their patti (grandmother, Madam Nagamma) for a long-awaited shopping trip to Tengku Kelana.
The children’s excitement was contagious — one of the boys even forgot to wear his slippers, laughing and saying, “It’s okay aunty, I can walk like this!” Their enthusiasm and pure joy filled the evening, especially as their grandmother revealed that they had never been taken out for a festive outing before.
Guided by President Lalitha, Veni and Saras Veloo, the children eagerly picked out their Deepavali clothes — a task made both delightful and challenging by their boundless energy as they darted between shops in excitement. President Lalitha added to the joy, promising to buy them firecrackers for the festival.
By 9.00 PM, shopping was complete, and the team stopped by a nearby eatery to pack dinner for the family before sending them home safely — tired, happy, and full of smiles.
A Celebration of Love and Inclusion
The children were overjoyed with their new outfits, while their grandmother was deeply moved by the affection shown. She expressed heartfelt gratitude for making her grandchildren’s Deepavali brighter and more meaningful than ever before.
The success of the IWK initiative was made possible through the collective efforts and dedication of its members. Special appreciation goes to President Lalitha, who coordinated the outing and ensured everything ran smoothly; Mrs Veni, whose leadership and gentle guidance kept the children engaged and happy; and Mrs Saras Veloo, for her kindness and patience throughout the evening. A warm mention also goes to Puspa, affectionately known as the “security officer,” for keeping a watchful eye on the little ones to ensure nothing was accidentally broken amidst their joyful excitement.
The evening was a beautiful reminder that the true spirit of Deepavali lies in spreading light, laughter, and love to those who need it most.
