Penang Shan Children’s Home Charity Food Fair
IWC of Penang responded to an appeal by Shan Children’s Home to help raise funds at their Charity Food Fair. Our members not only purchased the food fair coupons, but also set up and manned a stall selling a Peranakan favourite – popiah and pie tee
Sunday, 4th January brought 6 members from IWC of Penang, DC Jillian, Club President Sally, Treasurer Arvind, Gulbanu, Daljit and Munny on a culinary adventure, filling up pie tee cups and wrapping up popiah as fast as their hands could. The filling had been done earlier by our President Sally at her home. While the food was being sold, the children from Shan’s home were seen dancing in the hall, entertaining the patrons.
Though hectic, it was fun, challenging each other on who could roll the popiah the fastest. DC Jillian had also swapped roles from academician to popiah wrapper. Rotary Club of Penang’s Past President Amreet Singh Gill was seen sharpening knives akin to performing a Bhangra Dance.
All proceeds from the sale of our food was given to Shan’s Home to help raise funds to sustain their daily operations and upkeep their institution
In order to provide for the increasing number of children under their care. Most of these children come from broken or dysfunctional families.
IWC of Penang extended as we are confident with the care and dedication of the care givers. We hope that these precious children will grow into respected professionals and graduates one day and stand tall with dignity as responsible and noble citizens who will be able to give back to the community.
