International Women’s Day Celebration Penang State

Members of Inner Wheel attended a press conference held at KOMTAR, Penang on Wednesday, 11th February at 10.00 am to officially announce the launch of International Women’s Day 2026 celebrations.

The event was officiated by the Honourable Lim Siew Khim, State Executive Councillor for Social Development, Welfare and Non-Muslim Affairs, alongside Dato’ Ong Bee Leng, CEO of Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC), and Dato’ Rohana Abdul Ghani, Member of the Board of Directors of PWDC.

The press conference drew attendees from various sectors, including government agencies, NGOs, the private sector and members of the media. In solidarity with the occasion, many participants wore purple, the symbolic colour of International Women’s Day.

Inner Wheel was proudly represented by President Sally Koh of IWC Penang, President Dr Lalitha Ramasamy of IWC Butterworth and Secretary of IW District 330 Malaysia, Lucy Barrock, as well as Club Committee Member Sellam Murugiah of IWC Butterworth.

In her address, YB Lim highlighted that Penang has been commemorating International Women’s Day for the past 14 years. She outlined key focus areas for this year’s campaign, aimed at empowering women and enhancing their opportunities and quality of life.

The theme for 2026 was unveiled as “Give To Gain” / “Beri Demi Perkasa,” reflecting the spirit of collective contribution towards women’s advancement. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm and camaraderie, with expectations of a record number of participants at the state-level celebrations. Strategic partners will be championing Women’s Empowerment programmes throughout the month of March.
