Hope Among The Charred Remains - IWC AS Steps In

On 9 May, tragedy struck a low-cost housing estate when a raging fire tore through three single-storey terrace homes, spreading mercilessly within minutes, swallowing the three homes before anyone could save what mattered most. The owners, three women, escaped with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

As they stood outside watching flames engulf their homes that once sheltered their dreams, memories, and struggles, tears flowed uncontrollably. In mere moments, everything they had worked so hard for was reduced to ashes.

Yes, help arrived. The state government stepped in to provide assistance. But when your entire life disappears in seconds, what kind of help can ever truly be enough?

Moved by their pain, IWC AS launched a donation drive, and on 16 May, President Ishka, accompanied by Secretary Shantha, CC/ISO Padmini and Member Yasheni, handed over monetary assistance to the three households, one of whom was represented as she is still in Hospital. While generous donors had come forward with provisions, mattresses, pillows, and bedding, members knew there were also silent necessities often overlooked. As women ourselves, IWC AS members understood that these three ladies urgently needed personal essentials, like undergarments, toiletries, bath necessities, and other intimate items that are difficult to ask for, yet impossible to live without.

The gratitude in their eyes spoke volumes. In the midst of unimaginable loss, this small gesture reminded them that they are not alone.

To everyone who contributed, donated, shared, and cared, thank you for restoring not just comfort, but dignity, hope, and humanity to families trying to rise again from the ashes and ruins
