Bond Beyond Service: A Retreat of Friendship, Fellowship and Renewal



What better way to end Term 2025–2026 than with a retreat? And retreat we did!

The Bond Beyond Service Retreat 2026, on June 14 and 15, brought together 15 members for a memorable one-night, two-day getaway at a charming 100-year-old colonial VIP bungalow on Carey Island. Nestled amidst a palm oil plantation and flanked by the waters of the Straits of Malacca, the bungalow’s grandeur and the stillness of its surroundings provided the perfect setting for members to come together, bond, foster camaraderie, share personal narratives, enjoy good food, dance, be silly, and feel like teenagers once again.

The retreat was made possible by a dedicated five-member Organising Committee comprising CP Parimala, Shanthy, Asha, Manon, and Jayanthi, whose commitment and teamwork ensured that every detail was carefully planned for comfort, fellowship, and fun. Members were warmly welcomed by the committee, dressed in purple, before enjoying tea, cakes, and savouries in a relaxed setting. They were then divided into three teams – Green, Red, and Blue – fostering friendly competition throughout the retreat.

The programme featured a variety of engaging activities, including a hidden mascot challenge, treasure hunt, partner drawing game, and other team-based challenges designed to encourage teamwork, creativity, and laughter. Members even had to waltz to music as they entered the bungalow, resulting in peals of laughter and setting the tone for a joyful weekend.

The serene and tranquil surroundings invited members to stroll the grounds, scramble up a muddy path to admire the waters surrounding the island, and simply appreciate the beauty of nature. As evening approached, the ladies gathered to take in the stunning sunset before preparing for the much-anticipated Glitz and Glamour Night.

A highlight of the retreat, the evening featured a Best Dressed competition, catwalk presentations, group dances, and friendly rivalry, creating an atmosphere of elegance, fun, and friendship. The dancing, modelling, and spirited competition contributed to a truly enjoyable and memorable night.

The following morning began with a peaceful walk along the riverbank, offering scenic views of the bungalow and its surroundings, followed by a rejuvenating yoga session led by Jayanthi. The session provided a welcome opportunity for members to leave behind their busy schedules, focus on their breathing, and be fully present in the moment. More games and fellowship followed, including Shanthy’s lively phrase-guessing challenge and Asha’s quiz on the significance of the Inner Wheel emblem. Throughout the retreat, Manon diligently captured memories through photographs, while Pari, ever the matriarch, remained a pillar of support, ensuring that everyone had a wonderful time.

The retreat concluded with more fellowship, photo-taking sessions, and lunch before members departed, refreshed and inspired. True to its theme, Bond Beyond Service strengthened friendships, created lasting memories, and reminded members that beyond service lies the enduring value of meaningful connections and sisterhood.

Special thanks go to the Organising Committee for their meticulous planning and attention to detail. It was indeed a memorable retreat, leaving everyone rejuvenated and ready to begin a new Inner Wheel term.
