The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly transformed the landscape for international collaboration and exchange among Inner Wheel Clubs. As the pandemic has taken hold, Clubs need to plan for sustainable initiatives which can enrich each other’s experience, and in turn, foster greater understanding through virtual internationalisation.

It is indeed heart-warming to note that three Clubs have taken it in their stride to seize the digital opportunities of international immersion beyond traditional collaborative approaches. IWC of Alor Setar forged a relationship with IWC of Kinabalu Rafflesia under District 331 on 30 July 2021, when the Presidents of both Clubs signed a Friendship Agreement and exchanged each other’s bannerettes.

This was followed by the Inner Wheel Club of Taiping which set the wheels in motion for collaboration via the exchange of bannerettes with two Clubs, the Inner Wheel Club of Green Hills Chittagong under District 345 and IWC of Dhanmondi, Bangladesh, under District 328 on 31 July and 4 August 2021. On 2 August 2021, IWC of Subang Selangor was invited to the virtual Installation ceremony of the President and Office Bearers of IWC of Calicut Central, India, where the Charter President of IWC of Subang Selangor was the chief guest.

District ISO Datin Pathma was pleased to witness the events of IWC of Alor Setar and IWC of Subang Selangor. She hopes that more Clubs will join the foray of internationalisation and looks forward to the time when these virtual exchanges can materialise into physical visits and joint projects and programmes to take the ideals of Inner Wheel to greater heights.
