District Extension Organiser (DEO) Peggy Lee of Inner Wheel District 330, organised an Inter-District Meet between Districts 330 and 331 which was attended by about 60 participants from both Districts on 18th December 2021. District Officers along with Clubs’ leaders and representatives supported the Meet with their presence. District Editor Padmini Pillai helped in preparing the programme and the attractive publicity poster.

Immediate Past District Chairman (IPDC) Shanti Menon as emcee, gave the opening address. Deputy National Representative of Districts 330 and 331 Parimala Satheesan, lit the Candle of Friendship and led the reciting of the Friendship poem. A minute’s silence was observed to remember the Inner Wheel stalwarts from the two districts who passed away recently namely Lucy Tokuzip on August and Joy Sundram on 21st  November, both of whom were International Inner Wheel Past Board Directors.

The event started punctually with members exchanging pleasantries as they called in. The districts share a historical bond from their past association as members of the same district which was split up into two but still share a National Representative and Deputy National Representative.

District Chairman Datin Shamini Nair of District 330 and her counterpart Datin Gillian Lee of District 331 gave short but meaningful addresses which carried similar messages of greetings in friendship. This was followed by DEO Peggy’s PowerPoint presentation of the new clubs in District 330 namely, Inner Wheel Club of Azul which was chartered recently in 2021 and Inner Wheel Club of Melaka which was chartered in 2020. She paid homage to the previous District Office bearers for their efforts. The District Extension Chairman of District 331 Phyllis Fong then gave a similar presentation of the Inner Wheel Club of Singapore Central, the latest club to have been formed in the island Republic.

International Inner Wheel Board Director Datin Seetha Lakshmi then gave an insight into International Inner Wheel’s prestigious Margarette Golding Award, named for its founder, its history, exclusivity and the stringent criteria applied in choosing deserving recipients. Four of the five recipients from the districts were present and attendees listened enthralled as they related their journeys. The four exalted, yet humble and friendly women, all Inner Wheel Past Office Bearers were Anne Lasimbang of IWC Kota Kinabalu, District 331; and District 330’s To’Puan Lam Leepin of IWC Kuala Lumpur, Datin Pearl Jai Mohan of IWC Kuala Lumpur City Centre and Girija Menon of IWC Petaling Jaya. It was an inspirational experience listening to them.

The session was smoothly brought to its conclusion by emcee IPDC Shanti Menon as members called for more such inter-district get-togethers and exchanged Christmas and New Year wishes before calling it a day.
