Orange the World 2025: Empowering Young Voices, Inspiring Change

🧡 Orange the World 2025: Empowering Young Voices, Inspiring Change 🧡

The Orange the World programme by the Inner Wheel Club of Subang Selangor culminated on 6 December 2025 at the Belfast Room, Brickfields Asia College (BAC), Petaling Jaya. The event brought together advocacy and action through an inspiring speaker session, student-created awareness reels, prize-giving, a small stall by Rumah Perlindungan Sosial Klang (RPS), an energising Zumba finale and a warm meet-and-greet session.

In her opening remarks, President Rajani highlighted a sobering reality: 137–140 women and girls lose their lives every day globally due to violence by intimate partners or family members. According to the World Bank Gender Data Portal, young adults, particularly women aged 16 and above, are most at risk, reinforcing the importance of reaching out to youth.

In line with this, the club focused its campaign on young adults, engaging university students through a reel and video competition aimed at raising awareness and encouraging accountability.

Our guest speaker, Ms Vatsala Nair Manoharan, a social entrepreneur and gender-based violence activist, delivered a powerful and thought-provoking session. She shared insights into the work of Moms Village Asia and introduced #RingARing4Roses (#RAR4R), emphasising the 3D Rule for bystander intervention: Direct, Distract and Delegate. The #RARAR movement is working towards creating an Abuser Intervention Module to reduce the incidence of violence and to hold perpetrators accountable.

Guests also visited the RPS stall, which showcased eco-friendly products made from recycled food-grade plastic packaging, reflecting our commitment to sustainability while supporting this shelter, which serves as a haven for survivors.

We congratulate all participating students and the winners:
1st Prize: The Spoken Word
2nd Prize: Amnesty BAC
Consolation Prize: Indian Cultural Society BAC
Special Mention: Oneness IGCSE School

The programme concluded on a high note with a lively Zumba session, followed by a light-hearted “paint the town orange” walk in Brickfields, sparking conversations and public interest. It became a meaningful extension of our advocacy, and we were pleased to meet several women who expressed interest in joining us as potential members.

Our heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the success of this meaningful programme:
• Brickfields Asia College for sponsoring the venue
• Ms Saraswathy Veloo, Datin Sri Dr Suja and Ms Lena Chua for their support
• Jane Dava for excellent coordination
• PNR Parimala for connecting us with BAC
• BAC students and the RPS group for their participation
• Jevita (Nottingham University) for engaging young voices
• Our OTW organising team and all IWCSS members for their dedication, contributions, and strong turnout in orange

🧡 In solidarity with Inner Wheel Clubs worldwide and the UNiTE campaign, we reaffirm our commitment to ending violence against women and girls by 2030. Together, we make a difference. 🧡
